Fake list of Gujarat police transfers goes viral

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat police was riled by a fake transfer list of 12 senior police officers of the rank of deputy superintendent of police going viral on social media on Sunday night. The letter circulated on social media showed serial number and signature of one Amit Raval - designated as section officer, home department.

A top police official said investigators immediately started an internal probe and found that the signature of the section officer was fake.

Though police did not officially lodge an FIR on Sunday, the state and city cyber cell have been asked to trace the source from where the fake transfer list was made viral on social media.

A senior police official said, "The signature mismatch was the first clue that transfer letter was fake."

"We then noticed that against the name of one DSP ZR Desai it was written that he has been transferred from SC/ST cell- Botad to Vibhag -2 of State Monitoring cell. Now, there are no sections in state monitoring cell directly functioning under DGP Shivanand Jha," said a senior police official.

Police officials said the home department on Monday will decide on the course of legal action to be taken.
