Farm loan waiver takes off in Madhya Pradesh, 40k benefited on first day

BHOPAL/INDORE: Chief minister Kamal Nath kicked off the ‘Jai Kisan Fasal Rin Maafi Yojana’ in Namli tehsil of Ratlam district on Friday, waiving loans worth Rs 134 crore of 40,000 farmers at a two-hour-long event.

“Today is a historic day. We have fulfilled the promise of farm loan waiver made 56 days ago,” the CM told a large gathering of farmers before handing out loan waiver certificates to local farmers.

Similar programmes will be held in 383 rural tehsils till March 1, and the CM will participate in another such event in Chhindwara soon.

Addressing the Ratlam event, Nath said agri loans of 50 lakh farmers will be waived under the scheme. By March 1, his government plans to deposit loan waiver money in the accounts of a whopping 25.5 lakh farmers.

“My government believes in working without any publicity. The Congress government is pushing for day-to-day and week-byweek development and won’t leave it to years. We are moving ahead with the same policy,” the CM announced, amid cheers.

On the first day on Friday the district collectors in the state approved 7.74 lakh claims of farmers, said a government statement.
