Feud triggered Jodhpur firing

Ahmedabad: Late on Saturday night, a gunman’s attack in Jodhpur had triggered panic among local residents. Police officials said that Jashwantsinh Thakor was sitting outside the office of his cousin, a cable operator, when four shots were fired at him. The gunman has been identified as Aakash Parmar.

According to the FIR lodged by Thakor, 45, a resident of Vaghela Society near Rathi Hospital, he was outside his cousin Mahesh Thakor’s establishment when the attacker arrived in a car.

Eyewitnesses later said that there was another person in the car as well.

“Parmar, who had long-standing enmity with Thakor, pulled out a revolver and fired shots at him,” the FIR said. “The shots missed Thakor whose cries for help made Mahesh Thakor’s staff run towards Parmar to apprehend him.” However, the FIR said that Parmar used a sharp-edged weapon to slash the hand of one of the staff members, Paresh Thakor. “Parmar then entered the car and sped towards Someshwar area,” said a police official.

Police officials claimed that Parmar had fired shots from a starter gun, which only sounds like a real gun. “Thakor and Parmar were locked in a 15-year-old rivalry which began over construction and cable business monopoly,” said DCP zone-7, K N Damor. “About four months ago, Parmar had filed an FIR against Mahesh Thakor, complaining of assault. Parmar is a history-sheeter with four cases of assault and loot registered against him with Anandnanagar and Satellite police stations in 2018.”

Parmar’s brother Vijay Parmar was involved in moneylending. Police said when Mahesh Thakor also began lending money, the feud between the Parmars and the Thakors escalated. “We have tried to locate the accused persons who had first fled to South Bopal from where they went to Adajan,” said Damor. “Later, they switched off their cellphones.”

A senior official of the Satellite police station said that cops took Paresh Thakor for treatment.
