FIR against 8 int'l returnees for failing to self-quarantine

Nashik: The civic administration has lodged an FIR against eight people who had returned from foreign countries for flouting the government procedure of quarantining themselves in a hotel for 14 days before heading to their respective homes.

On the compliant of Cidco divisional officer of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) Sandesh Shinde, Ambad police have booked eight foreign returnees under Section 188 (disobedience to the order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the IPC and other relevant sections of the Epidemic Prevention Act.

Senior inspector at Ambad police station Kumar Chaudhary said the people in question had returned to Nashik from abroad between June 24 and July 28.

Instead of staying in quarantine after coming from abroad, they headed straight for their homes despite the instructions that have been issued by the government to control the spread of Covid-19.

Shinde said there were hotels which have been earmarked for quarantining people who have come from abroad. Those coming from abroad are also instructed that they have to be in quarantine at certain hotels for a particular number of days stipulated by the government.

“During the review of such travellers, it was found that eight among them had not self-quarantined in the concerned hotels following which an FIR has been registered against them,” said Shinde.

He added that the medical teams have paid a personal visit to each of them and did not find any of them showing Covid-19 symptoms.

Chaudhary said that a large number of people were getting booked under section 188 for flouting safety protocols. This case too would be treated like them, he said.

Police said that the court would take necessary action against the eight people for not following the norms issued on the backdrop of the Epidemic Prevention Act.
