FIR filed for burning stubble, angry farmers protests on the streets

Pilibhit: Even after the instructions of the National Green Authority (NGT), FIR has been lodged against hundreds of farmers for burning stubble in Pilibhit district of UP. According to the information received, a case has been registered against 300 farmers of Pilibhit for burning stubble in their fields.

These cases have been registered by the revenue authorities against the farmers of Bilsanda, Naria, Amaria, Puranpur, Seramau, Madhotanda, Jehanabad, Bilaspur and Gajraula villages.

After the registration of the case, angry farmers have now come on the streets against the police action and are continuously raising questions on administrative action. Local farmer Charanjit Singh has told that farmers are already upset due to non-payment of cane arrears, low paddy prices and lack of fertilizer and now they are also being harassed for burning straw.

City Magistrate Ritu Punia has told that the instructions of the NGT are being followed and the district administration will not allow burning of stubble in the district. He has said that, "We have ordered all revenue officers to report cases of stubble burning in the district, the same is being followed by the authorities."
