FIR lodged against Priyanka Gandhi's aide for 'manhandling' journos in UP's Sonbhadra

SONBHADRA: An FIR has been registered against a close aide of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at Ghorawal police station in UP's Sonbhadra district on Wednesday.

The FIR has been lodged on the basis of the complaint filed by news channel reporter against Sandeep Singh. The accused has been charged with causing hurt and issuing a threat to the complainant and camera person accompanying him.

Earlier, a police complaint was lodged against the accused for allegedly manhandling a reporter and a cameraperson of a news channel while the Congress general secretary was visiting Sonbhadra in UP on Tuesday.

The complaint was filed at the Ghorawal police station against Sandeep Singh. A video of the incident that took place at Unbha village has since gone viral in which the aide is seen threatening and shoving the two mediapersons when the reporter seeks Priyanka’s comment on nullifying Article 370. Priyanka refused to comment but the reporter persisted.

"One Sandeep Singh, mentioned as the personal secretary of Priyanka Gandhi, manhandled the reporter and threatened him with dire consequences. We are probing the case," Ghorawal SHO G P Pandey said.

In the video, Singh is seen sporting a blue shirt. Sources in Congress said Singh, a student leader from JNU, is not an office-bearer of the party’s state unit. "He is based in Delhi and takes care of Priyanka’s schedules," said a local Congress leader.

BJP spokesperson Harish Chandra Srivastava slammed Congress saying: "This happened in the presence of Priyanka and is indicative of the party’s negative politics."
