Fire audit: Mohali to issue self-declaration notices

MOHALI: Three departments of Mohali, namely fire, local bodies and industry, have come up with different check lists for fire audit resulting in delay on the part of the Mohali administration to serve notices to factories located in Derabassi , Zirakpur and Mohali.

The notices were to be served for self-declaration of the fire audit.

Mohali deputy commissioner (DC) Girish Dayalan has said the office had received three check lists by the above said departments that had now been recompiled in a consolidated form.

Dayalan said, "We have compiled a comprehensive fire audit performa according to the act that has been sent to various factories wherein to be filled by the unit owners as self declaration. They have been given a 15-day notice to fill up the said performa and send it back to the administrative office. Thereafter we will conduct a thorough checking of the units and those still found in violation will face strict action as per the law."

The action came in the wake of several fire incidents being reported from various factories in Derabassi leading to major loss of property and life.

A recently conducted fire audit report pointed out that there are 500-odd premises that are not complying with fire safety norms in Mohali. The report has been submitted to the DC office.

The notices have been sent during the ongoing survey following DC orders to identify commercial establishments not maintaining proper fire arrangements and obtaining no objection certificates (NOC) from the area fire department .

In the said notice, the municipal commissioner has directed the unit owners to get the NOC from the fire department or their sewerage and water connections would be cut. Premises have been identified in the entire district in Mohali, Kurali, Kharar, Derabassi and Zirakpur. Most of these commercial establishments are factories and coaching centres.
