Fire breaks out at Kashipur roadways workshop, 3 buses charred

RUDRAPUR: Three buses belonging to the Kashipur depot of the Uttarakhand State Road Transport Corporation (UKSRTC) were burnt in a fire that broke out at the workshop of the bus depot in Kashipur city of Udham Singh Nagar district late on Monday night. No casualty or human injury was reported in the incident.

According to official sources, the fire began in the wee hours on Tuesday.

It engulfed the buses before the staff could attempt to put it out. It was only controlled when a team of fire-fighters arrived. Spare parts and materials were also damaged in the incident. However, the reason behind the fire has not been ascertained as yet.

Speaking to TOI, Anil Kumar Saini, assistant regional manager of Kashipur roadways depot, said, "The fire incident has incurred a loss of over Rs 25 lakh to the depot. The three buses that were charred had returned from Bareilly on Monday evening.”

Meanwhile, Mukul Pant, divisional manager (mechanical) of the UKSRTC, reached Kashipur and ordered an inquiry into the incident. According to his assessment, the incident took place because of the negligence of the staff on duty. "Anyone found guilty will face punitive actions. We will also file a complaint with the police", Pant told TOI.
