Flood alert: Fazilka deputy commissioner holds meet on preparedness

FAZILKA: Acting on an advisory issued by the state on heavy downpour in the next two-three days in the state and release of excess water from the Bhakra dam , Fazilka DC Manpreet Singh Chhatwal on Saturday held an emergency meeting with all officials of civil and police administration to check the relief arrangements made in the district.

He asked the officers and people residing along the banks of the river and other water resources to remain alert day and night.


He advised the people living near the banks of the Satluj, Bikaner canal, other water resources and other low-lying areas to remain alert and refrain from moving near these water bodies. He said 36,500 cusec of excessive water was being released from the dam till Saturday morning after the rise in the water level due to heavy rains in the hilly areas.

Meteorological department has also issued warning of heavy rainfall in the state in the next 72 hours. “Because of this, the level of water in rivers, canals and other water bodies will increase, which will make the situation risky in the low-lying areas,” he said, adding that therefore, the people residing on the banks of the rivers must avoid going near these and should take precautions for their own safety.

The DC said that the district administration was keeping a close watch on the entire situation, adding that they were geared up to face any unforeseen eventuality arising out of the prevailing circumstances. He added that the officers of the district administration had also been issued necessary instructions to tackle the emergency situation.
