KOTA: Former chairman of Bhawani Mandi municipality was critically wounded after unidentified gunmen fired multiple shots at him during an event in Jhalawar district on Saturday night.

Ram Lal Gujjar was rushed to Kota for treatment where his condition remains critical. Three others sustained bullet injuries during the firing that broke out around 8.45pm when Gujjar was attending a programme organised to commemorate the martyrs.

Speaking to TOI, Jhalawar SP Ram Murty Joshi said that Gujjar has sustained injuries near his neck and eye. “Initial investigation indicates that one person had fired at Gujjar. He was not able to recognise the members of the hit squad. We have started an investigation into the matter,” he said.

Gujjar was immediately rushed to a hospital in Jhalawar where looking to his critical condition the doctors referred him to another hospital in Kota. The police said that gunmen fled from the spot after firing at Gujjar who is also the father-in-law of the current BJP chairman Pinky Gujjar. SP Joshi said that Gujjar was able to converse with the cops at the hospital but stated that he could not identify the accused. The district police set up check posts even as a massive search operation was underway to track down the accused involved in the attack. Preliminary investigation indicates that the shots were fired from a pistol.
