Formulate policy to regularize jobs of contractual teachers: Tripura HC

AGARTALA: The Tripura high court has given four weeks' time to the state government to formulate a policy for regularizing the services of contractual teachers engaged under previous Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA).

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi and Justice Arindam Lodh, while hearing a petition of the employees seeking service assurance and other benefits, asked the state government to present their final policy on regularizing services of contractual teachers before the court on the next hearing in January.

Sajal Deb and Manoj Kumar Debbarma, two contractual teachers employed under SSA, had filed separate petitions demanding regularization of their service.

The state government argued that SSA teachers were not appointed on a regular basis by the previous Left Front government. This was a gross violation of the norms of SSA and Right to Education (RTE) Act, they added.
