Found in well: TVs, cameras & Aadhar cards

Bhopal: A well in Damoh is spewing LCD TVs, computers, cameras and suitcases. Not a wishing well this, but there’s a gang of thieves behind bars now wishing it had never been found.

Located in a farmhouse in Damoh city, the well was used by a gang of thieves to hide their booty, mostly stolen from trains, say police.

The cops ended up at the well while investigating a theft of high quality electronic gadgets and kitchen appliances from a shop last month.

SHO of Kotwali police station H R Pandey said, “We have arrested three gang members. During interrogation, they told us about this well and when we went looking for the stolen goods, a lot more has come out, including 4 LED TVs and several cameras.” Identity cards of several people have also been recovered.

The gang worked on trains and stole luggage and gadgets from passengers. After taking all the clothes and goods, the gang would pack stones or coal stolen from railway wagons in the bags and throw them into the well. Police wonder why the gang dumped gadgets in the well as well, when water can ruin them.

Police are now pumping water out of the well to see what other secrets it holds. After heavy rains this year, the water level of the well is very high. “We hope to empty it by tomorrow,” said Pandey.
