Four children among 16 killed in Doda mishap

At least 16 persons, including four children and five women, were killed in an accident on the Marmat road in Doda district on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the police, a 12-seater Tempo Traveller carrying 17 passengers was on its way to Goha Marmat village from Khellani when the driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp curve and it skidded off the road.

“The vehicle (JK 06 1182) rolled down a gorge, killing 16 persons. A rescue operation was launched by the police with the help of locals,” a police official said.

Doda SSP Mumtaz Ahmed said: “Sixteen persons have been killed and a passenger critically injured. All bodies have been recovered and the injured has been shifted to Government Medical College, Jammu, after initial treatment at district hospital.” A case has been registered at the Doda police station.
