Four from Belagavi die in Satara accident

BELAGAVI: Four people from Belagavi district are among those killed in a major accident that took place took place on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway-4 near Satara in Maharashtra on Thursday morning. Six people died in the incident in which a private bus collided with a truck.

The deceased from Belagavi are Dr Sachin Shankargouda Patil, 42 and Vishwanath Virupaksh Gaddi, 58, of Sankeshwar in Hukkeri taluk and Abbas Ali Katagi, 43 and Ravindra Karengar, 45 from Belagavi.



Sachin Patil, a noted doctor in Sankeshwar, had gone to take darshan of the famous Lalbagacha Raja Ganesh idol in Mumbai along with friends. The incident occurred when they were returning from Mumbai.

After the news spread, people of Sankeshwar called a voluntary bandh. Schools and colleges were shut while commercial establishments closed voluntarily. According to sources, the private bus was heading towards Belagavi from Mumbai while the lorry was on the opposite side. As many as 20 people were also injured in the incident.
