Four injured in firing during tazia procession in Una

Rajkot: In a clash between two groups during a tazia procession, four members of one group were injured when they were hit by pallets of the bullets fired by the members of the other group at Luhar Chowk in Una of Gir Somnath district on Tuesday night.

Police booked 3 persons for firing.

“However, it is yet to be ascertained as to how many rounds were fired.

There were three to four persons who had opened the firing, injuring 10-year-old Ayan Sorathia, Mustaq Naya (38), Hanif Chorwada (22) and Sahil Jokhia (23),” said R N Rajyaguru, sub-inspector with Una police station.

So far, only three accused have been identified as Nawaz Kaslani and his brothers — Riyaz Memon and Abdul Kaslani.

Of the two warring groups, one is led by Jahangir Dal, while the other is led by Riyaz Memon. It was the members of Memon’s group which had opened firing.

“Both the groups have been at loggerheads since 2012. Both groups had clashed with each other and filed complaints and cross complaints against each other in the past,” said Rajyaguru.

The firing incident triggered a wave of panic that gripped Una town where shops downed their shutters and residents locked themselves inside their houses. Una police station had to seek extra police force which carried out combing through various areas of the town.
