Four missing Tamil Nadu fishermen rescued

THANJAVUR: The Coast Guard on Thursday rescued four of the eight fishermen who went missing after their boat capsized in sea off Mallipattinam in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.

The rescued fishermen have been identified as S Muneeswaran, 24, G Tharaikudiyan, 28, A Ranjithkumar, 23, and Munisamy, 47. They had been admitted to Mallipattinam Government Hospital, inspector of Coastal Security Group S Subah said.

Search was continuing to locate the remaining four fishermen, he added.

A total of 10 fishermen from Nadarajapuram fishing hamlet near Rameswaram went missing when their boat capsized on Tuesday. The accident happened while they were returning from Cuddalore with a new fibre boat. Rough weather and consequent strong waves had caused the accident, the rescued fishermen said.

On Wednesday, two fishermen, M Senthilkumar, 31, and R Kalidass, 29, were rescued by local fishermen.
