Frequency of 8 major trains reduced to once a week

Ludhiana: Keeping in view foggy weather conditions, Northern Railway has taken a decision on Sunday to reduce the frequency of some long-route trains passing through the city. The railway has taken this decision to overcome the problem of several hours of delay, which is due to poor visibility on the Northern Railway route.

As per information available, in the initial stage, railways decided to reduce the frequency of eight major trains of Ferozepur Division — Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Ferozepur Intercity Express, Howrah-Amritsar Express, Howrah-Jammu Tawi Himgiri Express, Darbhanga-Amritsar Jan Nayak Express, Amritsar-Howrah Mail, Kolkata-Jammu Tawi Express, Ferozepur-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Intercity Express, and Amritsar-Jaynagar Saryu Yamuna Express, all of which will run for only one day a week for the next one or two months.

Apart from that, train timings continued to remain disrupted on Sunday, as 15 trains arrived behind schedule, which irritated the passengers waiting for them on different platforms. Apart from delays, railways has also reduced the frequency of some long-route trains heading towards Kolkata and Bihar, which has also become a major issue for frequent travellers.

Passengers waiting for trains heading towards Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Kolkata seemed impatient as their trains were running way behind schedule. Poorvottar Express, along with Pooja Express, remained in the chart of the worst-affected trains, as they arrived with a delay of seven hours each, Tata Muri Express arrived late by more than five hours at 10.32am, instead of 5.05am, and Amritsar-Dadar Express arrived late by almost five hours at 6.15pm instead of 1.35pm.”

One passenger, Gajinder Gupta, waiting for a Kolkata-bound train, informed “Railway should bring modern traffic management system to overcome the problems of train delay in bad weather conditions, as it has become difficult for local passengers waiting for their trains sitting in cold and dry weather conditions.”
