Fresh FIRs against Ambekar, kin at more police stns

Nagpur: The police department seems to be tightening its stranglehold on gangster Santosh Ambekar, his nephew Nilesh Kedar and their aides with first information reports (FIR) getting registered against them at different police stations.

The latest offence against Ambekar was registered at Sonegaon police station while the one against Kedar was recorded by rural police in Khapa.

A report in TOI’s October 18 edition inadvertently mentioned that Ambekar was shifted to jail from government medical college and hospital (GMCH). After being discharged on Friday, Ambekar was produced in court.

Apart from Ambekar, his nephew Kedar, a Mumbai-based couple, Juhi and Chandan Chaudhari were also produced before the court for duping Gujarat-based businessman Jigar Patel of Rs five crore in a property deal. The court remanded all the accused in police custody till October 23. In this case, Ramesh Patil, Salim and the others are yet to be arrested.

Sources said the politically connected Ambekar and his accomplices may be slapped with Maharashtra control of organized crime Act (MCOCA) for a record fifth time for their role in the latest offences.

The police department is also contemplating action against two doctors of GMCH and one from Mayo hospital for helping Ambekar to get admitted during the police custody remand despite the accused having no health issues.

In the latest offence, Ambekar, Ramesh Patil and another, identified as Sunny, have been named as accused for duping a Gujarat-based businessman Hemant Purohit of Rs1 crore by luring him to engage in changing currency with a gain of Rs1 lakh as commission in August last year.

Kedar and others have been booked by Khapa police for kidnapping a person from Saoner over a monetary dispute. Further investigations are in progress.
