Gadvasu holds counselling for its new college amid confusion

Ludhiana: Amidst continued confusion Guru Angad Dev and Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Gadvasu) held counselling sessions for its new college to be opened at Rampura, 6Okm away from Bhatinda. Candidates from distant places thronged the premises though the notice about the session was uploaded on the official website on Monday evening adding to chaos and dissatisfaction among candidates.

Students claimed despite high merits they were not eligible for counselling as they had secured admissions in other veterinary college.

One parent, Amanpreet Singh Sodhi, from Faridkot said , “My son has secured 256 rank and still we did not get a seat for counselling. Earlier the counselling was scheduled for September 20 which was postponed to September 26. My son has already taken admission at Khalsa College, Amritsar. However, when we get to know on Monday evening that the counselling is at 9pm, we rushed to reach Ludhiana but it was of no use.” He alleged that the authorities did not consider the better ranking students as they had secured admissions in other colleges.

The local police had to intervene as things went out of control and the counselling went on till Monday midnight .

Vice-chancellor of Gadvasu Amarjeet Singh Nanda, said, “Classes for veterinary colleges of Amritsar and Ludhiana have been going on from last one month. All the scheduled counselling were over last month. Still, we were hoping that counselling for the newly opened Rampura college would be over during the same time , but we did not get any update from the Union government till Monday evening.” He said when they received the message it was already too late and they had to complete the process before September 30. Nanda maintained that university had filled up all the 80 seats despite the paucity of time. He said that had they not conducted the counselling a lot of students would have lost one year. He said that it was decided that students who had already secured admissions in other colleges would not be shifted. Officials communicated to the candidates via SMS and website about counselling and within few hours candidates reached the venue it started on Monday night itself.
