Gandhi statue found damaged with head broken at Orai college in UP

Jhansi: A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was found damaged with its head broken off at Gandhi Inter College in Orai on Friday morning. As soon as the news spread, Congress and SP workers reached the college and staged a protest there demanding immediate arrest of those responsible.

Later, the statue was fixed in presence of the police and a metal mesh was erected around it to ensure its safety.



The statue installed at Gandhi Inter College since 1970, was inaugurated by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi. The college guard found the statue damaged with its head lying on the floor on Friday morning. He then informed principal Ravi Agarwal who informed the police. Meanwhile, local Congress and SP workers reached the college premises and staged a dharna. SP Jalaun, Satish Kumar, “We have mounted the damaged portion back on the statue. No case has been registered so far but if someone comes with a complaint we will lodge a case.”
