Ganesh idol immersion held peacefully in Salem region

Salem: Ganesh idols were immersed peacefully across Salem , Namakkal , Dharmapuri , Krishnagiri and Erode districts on Wednesday. More than 3,000 police personnel were deployed to monitor the procession across the Salem region.

Earlier, Salem collector S A Raman, Namakkal collector Asia Mariam, Dharmapuri collector S Malarvizhi, Krishnagiri collector S Prabhakar and Erode collector C Kathiravan had convened meetings with the police officials in their respective districts to review the security and safety arrangements for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.



More than 30,000 Ganesh idols were set up across the Salem region by political parties like the BJP and Hindu outfits such as the Hindu Munnani and Vishva Hindu Parishad. BJP national secretary H Raja participated in the idol immersion ceremonies in Salem and Erode districts.

Salem city police commissioner T Senthil Kumar said the idols in the city were allowed to be immersed in Mookaneri lake in Kannankurichi area. Idols were also immersed at Poolampatty near Edappadi and Mettur.

While the Krishnagiri police allowed the idols to be immersed at Thenpennaiyaru river near Kaveripattinam, idols were immersed in the Cauvery near Bhavani in Erode district and in Hogenakkal in Dharmapuri district.
