'Gangster' cons Rewari man, robs him of car and phone

GURUGRAM: A Sector 56 resident was arrested on Saturday for allegedly posing as Delhi gangster Neeraj Bawana and robbing a Rewari resident of his Hyundai i20 and mobile phone. Police are conducting raids to nab a woman accomplice of the accused.

The accused has been identified as Ankit Kumar. The matter came to light when Surender, a resident of Bhudla village in Rewari, filed a police complaint against Bawana and found out that the gangster was already lodged in a Delhi prison.

Surender said Vaishali, a colleague of his friend, allegedly used his mobile phone to make some calls without his knowledge on April 15.

“The next day, a man called me and said he was Delhi don Neeraj Bawana. He told me to meet him in a guesthouse in Sector 45 as Vaishali was his girlfriend and he wanted to give her some money and a mobile phone through me. Afraid, I went there with a friend, Harvinder,” he said.

Ankit, claiming to be the gangster, allegedly met him there. He asked for Surender’s car keys and told him to wait in the guesthouse as he had to pick up some things, taking Harvinder along. He dropped Harvinder near Sector 5 and allegedly fled with the car, which also had Surender’s mobile phone inside. Surender approached police on Friday, after which an FIR was registered. Police realised that Bawana was already in jail and managed to track Ankit through his mobile number.
