Ganjam drowning: Missing woman's body fished out of river

Berhampur:  The body of a woman, who had gone missing in Rushikulya river at Kanjiama village under Hinjilicut police limits in Ganjam district yesterday, was fished out of the water body today.

The deceased has been identified as Sili Behera.

Reportedly, a few locals spotted the body on the river bank near a graveyard at Giria village this morning and called up police.

A team of police reached the spot, seized the body and informed family members of the deceased. The cops are further investigating the incident.

On Sunday morning, Sili along with three others had gone to the river to collect Holy water for ‘Khudurukuni Puja’. While fetching water, the four girls slipped into deep water and swept away by strong current. Soon after locals raised an alarm, fire officials rushed to the spot and rescued three of them. However, they had failed to trace Sili even after hours of operation in the water body.
