Get farmers' nods in 15 days to shift Parra power lines

PANAJI: North Goa district magistrate R Menaka on Monday directed the electricity department to maintain status quo on the 33 kVA line being erected between Mapusa and Arpora till all land owners through whose fields the line is passing are identified and their No-Objection Certificates (NOC) obtained. The district magistrate has given the department 15 days to complete this task.

The villagers of Parra had approached the high court objecting to the line passing through their filed citing disruption to agricultural activities as a reason. The high court while disposing the case had referred it to the district magistrate for resolution.

Menaka told TOI that she had disposed the matter after initially hearing it and had directed the electricity department to continue with the work. “However, seven people approached me saying that the department had not sought NOCs from them. So, subsequently another hearing was conducted during which it was decided that not only would NOCs be taken from these seven, but also from other landowners through whose fields the line passes.”

“The electricity department was directed to complete the task of identifying landowners and seeking all NOCs within 15 days,” Menaka said.

A 33 kVA line already exists between Mapusa to Arpora, but the department is keen on installing a parallel line to supply additional power to Calangute , which is grappling with an acute power shortage situation, sources said.
