Get rid of mice from your home with five easy steps according to expert

Mice in homes can be a real nuisance for homeowners.

Not only can these pesky rodents cause damage to property and food supplies, but they also pose health risks through the spread of diseases and allergens.

However, with the right approach and a bit of know-how, getting rid of mice from your home can be a manageable task.

According to experts at Project Multi Pest, clutter, pets, unkempt gardens, and cracks and crevices are typically what attract pests into homes.

So in order to deter them from returning, you would need to take away any incentives for them to return.

Seal Entry Points

The first step in mouse control is to prevent them from entering your home in the first place. Inspect the exterior of your home for any cracks, gaps, or openings that mice could use to gain entry.

Seal these entry points with steel wool, caulk, or metal flashing to keep mice out.

Eliminate Food Sources

Mice are attracted to food sources, so it's essential to keep your home clean and tidy.

Store food in airtight containers, clean up spills and crumbs promptly, and avoid leaving pet food out overnight.

By removing their food sources, you make your home less appealing to mice.

Set Traps

Traps are an effective way to catch mice already in your home.

There are several types of traps available, including snap traps, glue traps, and humane live traps.

Place traps along walls and in areas where mice are likely to travel, such as behind furniture and in kitchen cabinets.

Use Bait

Bait can be used to lure mice into traps, increasing the likelihood of catching them.

Common bait options include peanut butter, chocolate, and cheese. Place a small amount of bait on the trap's trigger mechanism, making sure not to overload it.

Dispose of Dead Mice Properly

If you catch mice in traps, it's essential to dispose of them properly.

Wear gloves and place dead mice in a sealed plastic bag before disposing of them in an outdoor trash bin.

Clean and disinfect the area where the mouse was caught to remove any traces of urine or faeces.
