KOTA: A 19-year-old girl from Jabalpur city in Madhya Pradesh, was on Friday evening rescued by MP police from Atol village under Atru police station of Baran district. The girl was sold as a bride for Rs 2.25 lakh last month to a local trader . Atru police lodged a case of conspiracy and cheating against the two touts including a woman, who facilitated the girl’s marriage with the Baran trader for money, and initiated investigation into the matter.

The girl was identified as Angel Ben, and was rescued by MP police from the house of the local trader identified as Rajendra Vijay. Acting on a missing person’s report lodged at a police station in Jabalpur, police on Friday evening rescued the girl and handed her over to her parents in Jabalpur, said S I at Atru police station Satyanarayan Jangid.

The local trader, Rajendra Vijay (35), with the mediation of two touts identified as Sunita Yadav and Nikhil Yadav of Jabalpur city, on April 14 this year, married 19-year-old Angel Ben and had paid Rs 2.25 lakh for the wedding to the two touts, the SI said. The two touts Sunita Yadav and Nikhil Yadav introduced themselves to Rajendra Vijay as the girl’s maternal aunt and cousin, and had arranged the girl’s marriage with the trader in exchange for money, he added. Meanwhile, the parents of the girl had lodged a missing person’s report at a police station in Jabalpur, he further said.

It has become a trend in the area that people from MP come here and extort money from eligible bachelors in the name of wedding and hand over to them the girls who have been tempted and misguided, the S I said. Reports of such brides running away with valuables are often heard of, but now the touts have devised legal procedure of bringing back the bride by lodging a missing person’s complaint after having extorted money from the eligible bachelors.
