Goa court grants bail to suspended swimming coach Surajit Ganguly in rape and molestation case

PANAJI: The Goa children's court on Friday granted bail to former swimming coach and Asian medalist Surajit Ganguly , an accused of raping and molesting a minor girl. He was arrested by Delhi Police on September 6 and handed over to Goa police on September 7.

Ganguly was arrested after a video released on social media went viral and after the survivor's father emailed a complaint to the Mapusa police station under whose jurisdiction the offence is alleged to have taken place.

Goa police had filed a 198-page chargesheet against him. The children's court had rejected his bail application on October 4 to allow complete investigation and to prevent the accused from tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses.
