Amdavadis woke up to a pleasant surprise on Monday as the sky turned cloudy and the temperatre dropped a bit.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places in the city on Tuesday owing to a cyclonic circulation lying over southwest Rajasthan, the Met office said.
According to the IMD forecast the city and nearby regions could also see a fall in temperature by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next couple of days. The sky will continue to remain cloudy, Met sources said. The maximum temperature in the city on Monday was 38.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum 26.7 degree C.
The IMD report said light rain is also likely at places in the districts of Banaskantha, Patan, Ahmedabad, Tapi, Navsari, Narmada, and the Saurashtra-Kutch region. Dry weather will prevail over the rest of the districts. As precaution, the IMD has advised fishermen not to venture in the open sea for next two days.
IMD scientist Manorama Mohanty said, "Thunderstorm or gusty winds are likely to occur at isolated places across the region."
A sudden change in weather was reported in Saurashtra, including Rajkot city, on Monday. Gusty winds kicked up sand and left roads, houses and vehicles dusty by the evening. The dust storm, however, brought down the temperature in the region and served as a welcome break from the intense heat prevailing for weeks. The weather office said areas near the seacoast could experience winds of up to 40 km/hr in the next 24 hours. Maritime traffic was also hit at all.major ports, including Kandla and Mundra port. Several sheds too were damaged by the strong wind.
