Goods train ferrying cars derails in Shahjahanpur

BAREILLY: Rail traffic on Bareilly-Lucknow section was disrupted for four hours after three wagons of a freight train carrying cars derailed at Atsalia crossing near Roza railway station in Shahjahanpur district on Tuesday morning. Services of nearly a dozen passenger and goods trains were affected. Following the accident, road traffic on the route was also diverted causing inconvenience to commuters.



Around 10.15 am, a freight train with 27 high capacity wagons, technically called BCACBN, was on its way to Changsari railway station in Assam. All the wagons of the train were carrying Maruti-Suzuki cars. When the train was passing through Atsalia crossing, the seventh, eight and ninth wagons from the engine derailed. The train was at a speed of around 20kmph. It was a freight train with flexi deck auto wagon rakes used by Maruti-Suzuki for ferrying cars.

After getting information on the accident, a team led by assistant divisional engineer (ADEN) Rocky Tiwari arrived at the spot and immediately started track maintenance work. Rail traffic on the down line was blocked while the up line was also affected for over an hour. The freight train was divided into two sections and later moved to the yard in Roza. Rail traffic resumed after 1.05 pm.

Tiwari said, “The affected train was brought back on track and moved towards the yard four hours after the accident. We are not aware about the damage caused to the goods inside the wagons.”

Station superintendent of Shahjahanpur railway station Manoj Kumar told TOI, “Both up and down lines were affected. Trains going towards the direction of Lucknow were delayed most. The Himgiri Superfast Express, Triveni Express , Rajya Rani Express , Jammutwai and Avadh Assam Express were delayed for over two hours.”
