Goons attack Satna cops, snatch rifles

Bhopal: A group of six criminals attacked two policemen and escaped with their rifles and wireless set. Frantic search operation was launched by police after identification of the accused. The incident took place on Wednesday night and the injured policemen were identified as Sandeep Namdev and Manoj Singh, both posted at Kolgawan police station.



At around 1.30 am, the cops received a message that a gang of seven armed people were extorting money from the truck drivers near Adarsh Nagar. When Namdev and Singh reached the spot, seven on them attacked them with iron rods and other weapons. They overpowered them and escaped with their rifle and wireless set.

Senior police officers, including the SP, reached the spot and ordered to barricade the city borders. Intensive search operation was initiated. Injured policemen were referred to a local hospital for treatment. One of them is said to be in a critical condition. The gang leader was identified as Vicky Khan, a history sheeter facing charges of several crimes.

Namdev told media that he had received inputs about loot from his superior. “When we reached the spot, the cleaner of a truck that was being looted raised an alarm. We managed to catch one of the accused. I went after another who ran towards a shanty. He was Vicky. I knocked the door and his mother came out and started shouting at me. I said Vicky was involved in loot and if he is not involved let him be examined by the truck driver. Soon Vicky came out from the house with six to seven people and attacked us,” he said. Several police teams were constituted to arrest the accused and raids are being carried out.
