Rajkot: A group of 20 people , mostly students , will embark on a 900-km foot march from Mahatma Gandhi’s birth place Porbandar to Dandi in Navsari district of south Gujarat on Thursday.

Organised as part of the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, the march is aimed at spreading Gandhian thought among people.

The students of Master of Social Science (MSW) and Bachelor of Rural Science (BRS) from a Palanpur-based college along with four social activists of Rajkot will commence the foot march from Thursday and are expected to reach Dandi, the epicentre of Gandhiji’s Salt Satyagrah, by January 9, 2020.

During the 57-day march, participants will cover 49 villages along with 24 taluka and district head quarters.

Ketan Lashkari, one of the participant and resident of Rajkot said, “We will stay in the villages and try and spread Gandhiji’s principles by interacting with students in schools and colleges. We we also be performing street plays on specific subjects in the villages.”

Prominent speakers will address gatherings in 24 taluka and district places. The march also supports the Global Peace March ‘Jay Jagat’ that commenced on October 2 from Rajghat in New Delhi.
