GST appellate tribunal: Haryana bench in Hisar, Punjab's in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: The Union government has established the Haryana state bench of GST appellate tribunal in Hisar. A notification in this regard has been issued by the ministry of finance under the Central Goods and Service Tax Act 2017.
Similarly, the Centre has notified the constitution of state bench of GST for Punjab in Chandigarh.
The state bench of Punjab would also hear matters pertaining to Union Territory of Chandigarh. The bench for Himachal Pradesh would be in Shimla.
The Centre has set up these benches of the GST appellate tribunal on recommendations of the Goods and Services Tax Council. As per the statute under GST regime, the GST Appellate Tribunal hears the appeals against the orders passed by the taxing/assessing authorities.
The GST, levied across the country on the supply of goods and services, came into effect from July 1, 2017. However, no GST Appellate Tribunal was constituted in the states because of which the assessees of GST were facing problems.

Confirming the establishment of GST Appellate Tribunal bench at in Hisar, the Haryana finance minister, Captain Abhimanyu said a request to set up the tribunal at Hisar was sent by the state to central government. Haryana has around 4.5 lakh registered GST taxpayers in the state.
In a report, released in the first week of July this year, the Haryana government claimed that Rs 36,815 crores were collected from the state under state GST, CGST, IGST and cess for the eight months of GST implementation during 2017-18. It amounts to Rs 4,601 crore per month on an average.
The state collected Rs 10,178 crore, including provisional IGST settlement in the financial year 2017-18. In the financial year 2018-19, the state collected Rs 55,231 crore under State GST, CGST, IGST and Cess contributing Rs 4602.56 crore per month on an average.
The total collection for Haryana under all the GST Acts is Rs 55,231 crore as against Rs 11,77,370 crore for all the states in the country.
