Gujarat election results 2019: Panchmahal sets record, Dahod stays with BJP

VADODARA: In the neighbouring constituencies of Panchmahal and Dahod in central Gujarat , the BJP was set to register a record high margin in Panchmahal while it lost some ground in Dahod where its margin eroded as compared to 2014.

Trends available on Friday night indicated that, BJP's Ratansinh Rathod was leading in Panchmahal by a margin of 4,17,195 against V K Khant of the Congress.

The margin was the highest so far with the previous highest margin in the constituency being obtained by BJP's Prabhatsinh Chauhan in 2014 when he had won by 1,70,536 votes.

Chauhan was denied a ticket this time and was even threatening to contest the polls, but eventually stuck with the party. Rathod was elected as an independent MLA from Lunawada in 2017 after being denied a ticket by the Congress. Soon after being elected, he had supported the BJP.

Union MoS for tribal affairs Jaswantsinh Bhabhor was leading by a margin of 1,27,665 in Dahod against Cong's Babu Katara. Bhabhor's margin has, however, gone down as compared to 2014 when he had won by 2,30,354.
