AHMEDABAD: The ruling Bhartiya Janata party demanded an apology from the leader of opposition(LOP) Paresh Dhanani for misguiding the house over Narmada irrigation facility . Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel pointed out that the LOP had presented wrong facts in the assembly over the Narmada issue .

Pointing out, the deputy chief minister said that during the discussion he had presented the facts that against the target of providing irrigation facility in 18.45 lakh hectare, the government has been able to irrigate 16.51 lakh hectare area.

“Reacting to this the leader of opposition quoting the figures of the Socio-Economic review had stated that the government was able to provide facility in only 6 lakh hectares.”

Nitin Patel quoting the figures from the socio review said that the figures in socio economic review also mention 16 lakh hectares. He demanded that the LOP should point out page number and paragraph which has the six-lakh hectare mark or should apologise. “If the leader of opposition fails to apologise, the speaker should reprimand the LOP and ask him to be cautious.”

Reacting to the point of clarification, LOP sought time to present his point but said that in the para 2.26 under water resources department it is said that the government has been able to irrigate nearly 47 hectares of land of which 17.92 lakh was Narmada canals. However, the report states that the only 66% of the irrigated land is getting water.
