Guntur : On the lines of AIIMS, GGH marches to super-speciality

Guntur: Government General Hospital (GGH), Guntur, is marching towards becoming the biggest public healthcare institution in the state. The hospital has already started acquiring latest machinery and advanced treatment facilities.

Almost all the speciality wings in the GGH are being strengthened to provide advanced treatment.
GGH already has top doctors and has affordable treatment facilities. “GGH is not only big in size but also provides better treatment than any corporate hospital,” said district collector and hospital development authority chairman Kona Sasidhar.

He said that they are planning to convert GGH into Guntur Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) on the lines of AIIMS.

On Wendesday, Sasidhar inaugurated digital x-ray unit and advanced machinery in the department of gastroenterology at GGH. Two dialysis units were added to the existing units in the GGH keeping in view of the rush of patients, he said.

“The cancer block being constructed by Natco Pharmaceuticals will also be ready by July. This unit will make GGH a true super-specialty hospital,” he pointed out, adding that cancer is fully curable now. “We can also keep the cancer away by following simple food habits and physical exercise,” said Sasidhar. He explained that the cancer unit is coming up in acrpss 80,000 sft.

Sasidhar also said that Natco is not only constructing the building but also has promised to manage the unit by supplying free medicines. Natco is spending close to Rs 29 crore for strengthening different units in GGH, he said.
