Gurugram: Criminal fires at 'friend' after spat during drinking

Gurgaon: A repeat offender has been booked for shooting at an acquaintance after an argument while they were drinking together near Bilaspur early on Thursday morning.

Monu, a resident of Parakhpur village near Bilaspur, has over 20 cases registered against him for various crimes — including attempt to murder and robbery — at Manesar police station.

Police have also declared him a ‘bad character’.

A police officer said Monu had a few drinks with Ramesh, who is a cowherd and was acquainted with him, and two others at another acquaintance’s house on Wednesday. Police said both of them were drunk and started arguing over a petty issue around 4am on Thursday. The argument escalated and Monu shot Ramesh in a fit of anger.

“They were drinking and arguing. In a fit of rage, Monu asked Ramesh if he should shoot him. Suddenly, Monu whipped out a gun and fired at him,” said Jai Prakash, SHO of Bilaspur police station .

Police were informed and soon reached the spot, but Monu had fled by then. Ramesh, who was shot in the shoulder, was taken to a private hospital in Manesar. Police said he is now out of danger.

An FIR was booked against Monu under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act . “We have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter,” Prakash said.
