Guwahati: Man hacks 7-year-old to death in fit of rage

GUWAHATI: A seven-year-old boy was hacked to death by a 36-year-old man in a fit of rage ar Dhiringapur village in Assam 's Baksa district , 107 km from here, on Tuesday evening. The accused, Albiz Bandho, was sent to judicial custody on Wednesday after being arrested on murder charges.

"The child was playing outside Bandho's house when Bandho stepped out with a machete and hacked him from behind," a Barbari police official said.

Villagers saw the boy lying in a pool of blood and informed police. "The boy did not survive the attack," the official added.

Though the reason is yet to be confirmed, preliminary investigation revealed the accused was drunk when the incident occurred.

"The deceased boy probably said something to Bandho, who was a neighbour. He might have felt humiliated and, in a fit of anger, attacked the boy. He was also found to be under the influence of alcohol," police sources said. Bandho lives around 100 m from where the boy lived.

Police also suspect a case of personal vendetta Bandho had against the boy's family and have been questioning both families.

"Personal vendetta has been playing a major reason behind a large numbers of murders in the state. Records said that in 2017, some 290 people out of 1145 were found to be killed because of personal vendetta. Before that, between 2014 and 2016, some 877 people were killed over such vendettas in the state," a police official said.
