Hardik Patel visits Somnath Temple on his birthday

Gujarat Congress’ newly-appointed working president Hardik Patel marked his birthday by paying obeisance at Somnath Temple in Veraval and hoisting the holy dhaja (flag). Born in 1993, Hardik turned 27 on Monday. He used the occasion to connect with people and party workers of the region.

Vimal Chudasama, MLA of Gir-Somnath, said Hardik later visited a gaushala (cattle shelter).

A meeting was organised at Chudasama’s office where he interacted with party leaders, workers for about 30 minutes and took stock of the local issues.

Hardik would be traveling to Devbhoomi Dwarka on Tuesday to pay respects to Lord Krishna at the Dwarkadhish temple. As per the schedule, he would meet Congress leaders at 9:30 am at Jamnagar Bypass Chokdi on his way to Dwarka. The leaders will join him to reach Dwarka temple at 12:15 pm. A meeting has been planned for workers of Jamnagar and Dwarka followed by interaction with local media.

Hardik Patel was appointed working president of the Gujarat Congress on July 11, in what many believed was a birthday present to the youth leader by the high command. His elevation came within a short span of 16 months after joining the Congress on March 12 last year. He rose to fame after starting the 2015 agitation in Gujarat, demanding OBC reservation for Patidars in education and government jobs.
