Haridwar: Tight security plan for Kumbh 2021

HARIDWAR: Authorities are chalking out an elaborate security plan to host more than five crore devotees expected for Kumbh at Haridwar in 2021.


A total of 1,500 CCTV cameras would be set up in the entire Kumbh area and hundreds of drones would maintain an aerial view over the developments. Mela administration also decided to establish a command control centre to operate the cameras.

According to mela administration, cameras with face recognition and automatic number plate detection system for vehicles will be installed at specific points in Haridwar and Rishikesh .

Kumbh mela, one of the largest religious events of the world, will be held in Haridwar in 2021. It is slated to start in January 2021 and continue until April 14. Apart from 13 akharas, a large number of devotees and tourists are expected to take part in this four-month-long mega event.

IG Kumbh mela Sanjay Gunjyal told TOI, “We have decided to install around 1,500 cameras in the entire Kumbh mela area including Haridwar and Rishikesh regions. And not just CCTV cameras, but also cameras with face recognition facilities at 10 points. Automatic number plate detection cameras will be set up at 50 points in Kumbh area. It will help us to manage traffic and the crowd.”
