Haryana: Cyber crime up with digitisation, say experts at Kurukshetra University

KURUKSHETRA: A one-day workshop on cyber safety and consumer awareness was organized on Friday for the students and faculty of the university in collaboration with the Cyber Peace Foundation (CPF), Delhi and OLX on Friday at the Women's Studies Research Centre (WSRC), Kurukshetra University in Haryana .

Director of WSRC KU Prof Sudesh said with the digitisation, the number of cyber crimes have increased. The main objective of this workshop was to make the youth aware about internet crimes and how to use the internet safely.

“Every year on various social media platforms, millions of youths, especially women, are falling victim to cyber bullying, moreover, people are also facing loss of hard-earned money due to cyber fraud. We are becoming victims of these crimes because we are not aware of the safe use of the internet and are easily caught in the trap laid by criminals in the social media or mail.

Trainers from the CPF, Akanksha Kapoor and Kamakshi Sharma briefed the participants on the topics of creation of secure digital space, financial cyber security, smart surfing and smartphones, reporting incidents and crime and cyber peace programmes during technical sessions.

“Users can avoid fraud transactions of money from banks through scams and can keep their money safe from hackers in the bank. Smart surfing and its sufficient information not only protects us from many types of online threats, but also protects our rights, reputation and honor on the internet,” said CPF trainers.

Around 250 students from different departments of the varsity participated in the workshop and held an interactive question answer session for clearing doubts with the organisers and experts.

Chief warden of girls hostel Prof Manjush Sharma, retired IAS Roshan Lal who is a law student in the KU and other faculty members also participated in the workshop.
