HC rejects former CS bail petition

Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Friday rejected the bail petition of former chief secretary Sajal Chakravarty in the Fodder scam related to fraudulent withdrawal of money from Chaibasa treasury (RC/68A/96).

CBI lawyer Neeraj Kumar said justice Aparesh Kumar Singh rejected the bail petition after CBI argued that during his tenure as deputy commissioner Chaibasa, Chakravarty applied pressure on the treasury officer to clear the bills related to animal fodder.

The CBI also pointed out that during a review meeting at Patna the former CS assured that all transactions were according to rules.

“The judge rejected the bail petition stating the charges under which the former CS was convicted were serious in nature,” Kumar said.

It may be stated here that the high court had granted bail to Chakravarty in the fodder scam (RC 20A/1996) case last month. The former CS had undergone half of his sentence term in the case.
