Heavy rain lashes Dahod, Panchmahal; 2 die in roof collapse

Vadodara: Panchmahal and Dahod districts were lashed by heavy rains that left two persons dead.

The fatalities were reported in Panchmahal district when an old house collapsed in the Derol Station village of Halol taluka of the district late on Friday evening. The ceiling of the 25-year-old collapsed on a family and four persons – Yatin Trivedi (30), Apexa Trivedi (32), Yuvraj Trivedi (5) and Champa Trivedi (55) – got trapped in the debris.

Apexa and Yuvraj died in the incident.

Yatin and Champa were admitted to the Halol referral hospital for treatment.

Heavy rains in Panchmahal district led to waterlogging on the highways.

The downpour was particularly strong in Shehra and Morva Hadaf talukas that received 155mm and 89mm rainfall till Friday evening. Godhra taluka received 36mm rainfall during the day.

The gates of the Kadana dam on Mahi river in Mahisagar district were opened to release water.

Sources said that it was expected that around seven lakh cusecs water would be released from the dam by Friday night. Water was also being released from the Panam dam in the Panchmahal district.

The Hadod bridge connecting Mahisagar district to Ahmedabad, Ghodiyar bridge connecting it to Rajasthan and the Tantroli bridge connecting Khanpur to Malekpur within the district were under water as the Mahi river was in spate.

Dahod taluka in Dahod district received 173mm rain till Friday evening while other talukas in the district also received major rainfall.

Waterlogging was reported in the Dahod, Jhalod and other towns and villages of the district.

A woman was injured in the Panta village of Jhalod taluka in Dahod district after a wall of her house collapsed due to heavy rains.
