Heavy rainfall lashes Rajasthan, farmers rejoice

JAIPUR: Heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at many places in the state on Friday which guided the mercury to take a dip. Though the initial three spells of the southwest monsoon was not fruitful, the ongoing fourth spell is bringing good amount of rainfall across the state.


Chikali (Dungarpur) received a rainfall of 60mm which was highest in the state.

Widespread rainfall activity also cheered the farmers across the state.

Attributing the revival of southwest monsoon winds to the active upper air cyclonic circulation and northerly winds, Jaipur Met office forecasted mild showers for Saturday, while heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places in the eastern and western parts of the state.

A fairly widespread rainfall was reported in Jaipur. Drizzling started at 5am and half an hour later, there was heavy rain. For almost three hours, it rained almost in every parts of Jaipur. Rainfall again exposed the lofty claims of the civic authorities on their drainage system. Many roads inside the colonies and main roads were submerged in water. People in various parts of the city complained of waterlogging and called officials for abrupt power cuts.

Heavy rainfall was witnessed in Banswara, Bhilwara, Dungarpur, Dausa, Jaipur, Sikar , Kota , Bundi , Jhalawar and Baran . Ongoing spell of torrential rainfall has also affected the state and national highways in various parts of the state.

Except Bikaner where a maximum temperature of 40.0 °C was recorded majority of the places in the state witnessed mainly pleasant weather with maximum temperatures below 35.0 °C.

Meanwhile, Jaipur Met office has issued orange alert for the districts including Bharatpur, Dausa, Karauli , Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Bundi, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu and Sikar districts of state for Monday and Tuesday which means heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at these places.
