Heavy rains, red alert issued in these districts of Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: There is heavy rainfall in northern Kerala on Thursday. In view of heavy rains, a 'Red Alert' has been issued for Wayanad and Idukki District. At the same time, the Nilambur city has been flooded due to the Cheliar river brewing. The India Meteorological Department said in its bulletin that on August 7, a 'red alert' has been issued for the Malappuram district in view of the rainy season.

Orange alert has been issued till 9 August in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod Samte 9 districts.

The Malappuram district administration has opened 9 camps in the district, while 7 camps have been opened in Nilambur alone. The District Disaster Management Authority told the media, "We have opened 7 camps in Nilambur and 9 in Malappuram. There are a total of 410 people in those 7 camps." There are at least 425 people in different camps in Malappuram. During this time, the Wayanad District Administration has opened Barah Camps, in which at least 560 people have been kept. Wayanad District Collector Dr Adila Abdullah told the media, "People of prohibited areas have been kept separate."

It was fifteen cm of rain in the last twenty four hours in Wayanad's Mantavyadin, followed by twelve cm in Mannar, Idukki and eleven centimeters in Miladapoorna. The news of heavy losses from Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod districts is coming due to rain with heavy rain and strong winds. A total of 31 people have died due to floods, landslides and felling of trees in Kerala during the monsoon that began in June.
