Here's why Captain Marvel aka Carol Denvers did not have a love interest in the film

Captain Marvel was Marvel Studios' first film of 2019 and it did not disappoint one bit. The film gave Marvel fans its first female superhero and that too a pretty awesome one. Carol Denvers aka Captain Marvel introduced us to her world as well as her friends and family. A week later, a brand new Avengers: Endgame trailer showed us Carol Denvers among the original six and fans obviously could not keep calm.

Speaking about Brie Larson aka Captain Marvel's relationships in the film, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently revealed that they decided to explore Carol's relationship with Maria rather than feature a romantic relationship in Captain Marvel.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Kevin Feige said that it never occurred to them to show a love angle. "Well that was something as we were developing the script and queuing off of the comics as always, it never even occurred to have a love interest," Feige said. "That's not what the movie was about. It was about Carol finding herself and growing and making mistakes and being bolstered up by her female mentors and female friends. And that relationship with Maria was very important."

Feige also praised Lashana Lynch, the actress who portrays Maria, for bringing a dimension of the character that connects viewers to Carol's origin story. The report further suggests that Captain Marvel sequels might continue to explore Carol and Maria's friendship, as Feige himself teased future films would likely be set in the past. Captain Marvel is now in theatres and Avengers: Endgame is slated to release on April 26, 2019.
