Hero MotoCorp achieves new production milestone at Haridwar facility

Hero MotoCorp, the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India, recently announced that it has achieved a new production milestone at its manufacturing facility in Haridawr. The company said it had crossed the 25 million units cumulative production. What's interesting to note here is that the company's Haridwar plant was able to attain this achievement in a little more than 11 years since it started operations.

The fact the aforementioned plant is the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturing plant and has an installed production capacity of 9,500 vehicles per day, may have helped.

According to PTI, Hero MotoCorp's Haridwar facility was commissioned in April 2008. The bike maker makes the following vehicles at this facility: Hero Splendor+, Hero HF Deluxe, Hero Passion Pro, Hero Passion 110, and Hero Splendor iSmart 110.

At the moment, the company operates a total of seven facilities: five in India and one each in Colombia and Bangladesh, with a combined installed annual production capacity of roughly nine million units. The plants in India are located in Gurugram, Haryana; Dharuhera, Haryana; Neemrana, Rajasthan; Halol, Gujarat, and Haridwar, Uttarakhand. A PTI report adds that Hero MotoCorp is working on its eighth manufacturing facility; also located in India, this new plant is in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.

Even as the Indian automotive industry continues to grapple with a continued decline in sales, Hero MotoCorp added that it recorded its highest-ever retail sales during the festive period. In fact, in October 2019, the company registered its highest-ever retail sales in any single calendar month with 12.84 lakh units.

Sanjay Bhan, Head – Sales, Aftersales and Parts, Hero MotoCorp said, “The growth in retail sales during the festive period is in line with our plans. First-time buyers, who have always shown a strong preference for the range of products from Hero MotoCorp, have driven this growth. Specific markets such as Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh – where the retail growth has been more than 15% - have also bolstered our overall retail growth during this festive season. Our motorcycle sales grew in double digits during this period, with a strong performance from our new range of premium motorcycles. The Pleasure+ scooter also generated substantial volumes during this festive season. We are optimistic of carrying forward the momentum in retail sales. Thanks to the record retail off-take, our inventory levels are now down to 30 days and future despatches are being planned in keeping with market demand. The despatch numbers for the month of October reflect our conscious effort at further correcting dealer inventories."
