High court shift: Lawyers to continue protest till Oct 25

Vijayawada: Lawyers’ associations from six districts have decided to abstain from attending court till October 25 as a mark of protest against the proposed shift of the high court from Amaravati to Kurnool . The advocates’ associations of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, East and West Godavari districts met at Eluru on Saturday and resolved to boycott the courts in protest of the proposal.

Lawyers’ associations in Guntur have intensified agitations after finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy said that the state government is considering shifting the high court to Kurnool in view of the demand from Rayalaseema districts.

Following the minister’s statement, lawyers’ associations from other districts joined associations in Guntur in opposition against the proposed shift.

The associations have announced that the next meeting will be on October 26 at Guntur to decide on a future course of action if the government does not withdraw its proposal. They have demanded that chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy give a statement in this regard.
