High on cannabis, man calls up Dial 100, demands to be dropped home

BAREILLY: Dial 100 cops in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district were in a fix on Saturday after they received a call from a man high on cannabis and demanding a lift back home. The 24-year-old told them that he couldn’t find transportation to reach his home in neighbouring Sambhal district as he had no money.


Since he sounded a bit incoherent, the cops asked if he took any kind of intoxication.

The man denied it.

“I have been smoking cannabis since childhood,” the youth added nonchalantly a bit later and produced a chillum from his shirt pocket.

The police team recorded their conversation with the youth, a video of which was later widely shared on the social media.

In the video, the young man can be seen arguing with the policemen why they cannot drop him at Gunnaur, his native place in Sambhal, in "the police jeep since it was also a government vehicle, like a UPSRTC bus". Asked why he had called up Dial 100, he replied, “I wanted to reach Gunnaur but had no money. So, I dialled the emergency number.”

According to the police, the man had come to the Ujhani area of Amroha along with a friend to visit one of his relatives. Later, his friend went back and he was left behind with no money to reach home.

Amit Kumar, station house officer of Saidnagali police station, said, “He was under the influence of cannabis. However, he strongly believed that cannabis is not a narcotic substance. Later, our constables dropped him at a bus spot and gave him money to buy ticket to be able to reach home.”
