Himachal Pradesh: Alert issued in Mandi district after water level in Kullu's Pandoh dam crosses danger mark

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh): An alert has been sounded in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district over potential threat of flooding. As per news agency ANI, water level in Pandoh dam has crossed the danger mark following heavy rain in the state’s Kullu district. Due to this, there is a probability that gates of the dam could be opened anytime.

The district administration in Mandi has already been alerted by the Pandoh dam authorities.

Meanwhile, all educational institutions in Kullu district have already been asked to remain shut following fresh snowfall, rain and hailstorm. Officials said the decision was taken in view of safety of students.

Kullu District Magistrate Yunus said in an order that all education institutions in the district should remain closed due to several roads becoming inaccessible because of snowfall in upper reaches and rain in lower parts of the district.

Further, local people and tourists have been advised not to go to sensitive areas near snowbound hills and nullahs as according to the Met department, the district could experience more snowfall and rain in the coming days.

As per the Shimla Met Centre, more snowfall is likely in high and mid hills and rain in low hills and plains of Himachal Pradesh till February 27.
