Himachal Pradesh: Bride & groom delay their wedding rituals to cast vote in Manali

Manali: During the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, a newly married couple from Jammu & Kashmir had grabbed eyeballs for their determination to exercise their voting rights. The newlyweds arrived at a polling station in Udhampur to cast their votes in full wedding attire. Their pictures went viral after it was shared on Twitter by news agency ANI.

As the 2019 Lok Sabha Election entered its last leg today with the seventh and last phase of polling, a bride and a groom from Himachal Pradesh have gone viral for putting the nation before their personal lives. As reported by ANI, the couple delayed their wedding rituals and opted to cast their votes first for the Manali parliamentary constituency.

The couple, fully clad in traditional wedding attires, arrived at the polling booth and exercised their franchise to elect a representative for the Manali constituency.

"We wanted to exercise our right to vote to choose the best possible government. The rituals can take place a few hours later too, but this chance will come only after five years, so we mutually took the decision to vote first," the groom told reporters.

The bride and groom were also accompanied by their family members to the polling station.

Earlier today, 103-year-old Saran Negi voted for the 32nd time in Himachal Pradesh.

In the seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections, 59 seats are up for grabs across seven states and one union territory.
